Wish I did...

Back in the 80's I recall reading a story about some agency/firm that was
upgrading an older model mainframe. Since the new model was much smaller
than the older model, it was able to fit through the doorways into the space
provided. When the older mainframe was installed it was lifted up two or
three stories and man-handled through an opening in the building. When it
came time to get it out of the building, the owners decided to save the cost
of getting another crane to take it out the same was it was installed, so
they just pushed it out the opening where it fell to it's death. <ggg> The
scrap was worth more than the machine since it contained the precious metals
used in the manufacturing of the processor and circuit boards...

Interesting story and I hope I recall it correctly.

Subject: Mainframe On The Way Out...

I know this is stretching the forum rules a bit, but thought others would
get a kick out of it.

I would provide more information about the article, but then I would spoil
the surprise <?>. Besides, it's only a single sentence that's mainframe
related.

Darin, if forum-decorum is being violated but this posting, please remove.

Thanks.
