Hi,

There are two products I have heard about recently to move open data sets
LDMF (SOFTEK) & DSLM (Mainstar). Anything else out there?

Mainstar Unveils Data Set Level Migrate (DSLM)

Designed to migrate data to larger capacity DASD volumes without disruption.

Mainstar announces Data Set Level Migrate (DSLM)
<http://www.mainstar.com/products/hsmt/dslm/index.asp> , a new software
product that allows for non-disruptive data migration. DSLM will move data
at the data set level, independent of DASD manufacturer.

To take advantage of new storage devices, companies must migrate critical
business application data. When migrating higher capacity volumes, the
ability to populate the volumes efficiently is crucial. These requirements
are based on one concern: the need to migrate critical business application
data seamlessly.

DSLM allows non-disruptive migration to occur, transparent to critical
business applications. While migrating data using conventional utilities
requires lengthy application downtime, DSLM can migrate without disruption,
whether you need to utilize larger capacity volumes, relocate data for
performance reasons, or reduce data set extents.

Critical business applications can remain online while DSLM migrates the
data to larger volumes, allowing you to reclaim unit control blocks (UCBs).
DSLM can also migrate an ICF user catalog to a different volume seamlessly.

For more details, read the Press Release

a limited number of release sites. If you are interested in an early release
version of the software, contact Mainstar at [EMAIL PROTECTED]

At SHARE SOFTEK was promoting LDMF

Non-disruptive dataset migration for the Mainframe
Combining volumes onto new, large volume capacity storage subsystems is
difficult, time consuming and requires taking revenue generating
applications offline for the duration of the migration. Logical Data
Migration Facility (LDMF) provides the solution you need to migrate and
consolidate datasets.
LDMF moves datasets without disrupting access to applications. LDMF makes it
easy to combine smaller capacity volumes to better utilize storage, helps to
increase available system resources, supports implementation of tiered
storage, and can be used to improve application performance for service
level compliance. The ability to move datasets non-disruptively simplifies
many of the challenges associated with data migration today, removing the
extensive downtime planning required.
Open datasets can be migrated with a completely transparent dynamic swap of
meta data.
