Older people also have more wisdom in general than younger people.  In  order 
to learn, one must be teachable (aka humble) and pay attention to one's  
teacher.  Younger people are often not yet teachable because they are too  full 
of 
themselves.  It takes some of us a long time to grow up.
 
Having taken karate classes when 19, then stopped for 20 years, then  started 
again around age 40, I agree with your observation on karate.   Younger 
people also tend to lose interest faster than older people, even in  cultures 
where 
they are not programmed by the media into expecting instant  gratification.  
A lot of things change with age.
