Neither. It uses the same (or a similar) service processor call as the linemode HMC console, but accepts some form of 3270 datastream from the program on the mainframe and acts like a 3270 as far as the user is concerned. It's run entirely on the HMC, though. > >As I understand it, z/VM will use it, but z/OS will not (at least, not > >yet). > Doesn't that suggest that it's not actually 3270? No, it means that z/OS hasn't been taught to speak 3270 on the service processor interface. > Note; there is an integrated TN3270 in current LAN interfaces, which > should be adequate for most MCS requirements. Indeed so...but z/VM 5.1's DVD installer, reportedly, will not work on anything but the HMC 3270 console. -- Jay Maynard, K5ZC http://www.conmicro.cx http://www.tronguy.net (Yes, that's me!) http://jmaynard.livejournal.com ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For IBM-MAIN subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the message: GET IBM-MAIN INFO Search the archives at http://bama.ua.edu/archives/ibm-main.html
