Thanks everyone for the excellent comments despite my obvious two errors. 1. I spelled CONSENSUS wrong. 2. I knew Linux ran under VM, but didn't state it properly.
My conclusion is that we are a Z/OS shop. That were our expertise exist. We don't haber the budget for VM/LINUX. I only wish that IBM would have more Websphere Software available on USS for Trial. ITYM z/OS Unix System Services: it depends on the applications, the workload, etc. Unix System Services has the advantage of better integration with the MVS workload; it has the disadvantage that it is EBCDIC and most of the rest of the Unix world is ASCII or character sets derived from ASCII. >Install LINUX on Z/OS and install the products on LINUX. Linux doesn't run on z/OS. You can run it directly on an LPAR or under z/VM. Either way you can concurrently run Linux images and MVS images on the same machine. Whether that is desirable depends on your projected application mix and workload. One factor to consider is whether you have the personnel and training budget for whatever options you are considering. Another factor is that an IFL is less expensive than a general purpose processor on the same box. -- Shmuel (Seymour J.)
