I think most people use SAS and MXG or MICS for this type of thing. I don't know the legality of doing it, but it might be "interesting" to some to see if there is a way to somehow use the MXG or MICS source code to create DB2 DDL to define the DB2 tables and perhaps to create programs in a different language to load that data into the resultant tables. Of course, this could very well be considered a copyright violation as it might be considered a "translation". Translating (or transliterating?) a literary work from one language to another requires the consent of the copyright holder. I'd almost bet the same applies to transliterating MXG into a COBOL / DB2 "work alike". Luckily for me, I can prove that I don't have access to DB2 (or other RDMS), so nobody should come looking. In any case, we use MXG and SAS on a Windows PC to do this (fully licensed, of course!). -- John McKown Systems Engineer IV IT Administrative Services Group HealthMarkets(r) 9151 Boulevard 26 * N.
