Hi Folks,
Because of something that happened today, it came to my attention
that enough people don't know about this, to warrant that I should write
something about it.
On most of the more recently updated files (last 9 years) in the CBT
Tape collection (www.cbttape.org) there is a pds member named @FILEnnn,
where nnn is the file number (3 numeric digits). That member contains
information about the file's author/contributor(s) and usually has
contact information also. If you have a question about something in the
file, it is usually helpful to contact that file's author. (Hopefully,
the info isn't out of date. Otherwise probably you should contact me.)
In any case, some doc, description, and contact information are usually
contained in that member. Point is that not everybody thinks (or knows)
about looking at this pds member, so I'm mentioning this info here.
Please look at member @FILEnnn in every CBT Tape file that you download!
The @FILEnnn member is usually a copy of that file's description in
File 001 (the doc file) of the CBT Tape itself. I maintain the doc file
(over 65000 lines) as a pds (I don't want to edit over 65000 lines every
time I change something), and the @FILEnnn member is the member of the
(File 001 maintenance) pds which describes the contents for this
particular file. I maintain a copy of the @FILEnnn member on the "file"
pds itself (as distributed) and I also use it to create File 001 (the
entire doc file) for the "tape". If you are curious, and you want to
see how to create the "doc pds" from File 001 itself, see File 006 from
www.cbttape.org for the tools. The CBTUPD program is used to create the
pds, and I roll all the pds members together in EBCDIC collating
sequence order (you can use the OFFLOAD program from File 093 for that,
and delete the ./ADD cards) to re-create File 001.
Anyway, I'm sure someone out there can use this general info, and
we've mentioned a few extra points of interest too.
All the best of everything to all of you.
Sincerely, Sam Golob
