When someone assumes mainframes = IBM Z/OS, then of course, IBM has a
monopoly.    Just like Apple and Sun have monopolies.

On the other hand, think of the monopolies that cable companies paid
for in cities across the U.S.    Technology doesn't care that the
cities sold them monopoly power to deliver TV content via cable - and
provided customers with alternative ways of getting the content.

IBM has competition for its mainframes.
