Yeah - my ENFREQ code was 5 years old and I was giving it a bit of
spit-and-polish for the new release and was foolishly expecting to rename the
rather tired-looking "ENFPTR DS A" in my workarea to something like
"DSA_ENFPTR DS A".

Now of course I have something like :

DSA_....
DSA_xxxx DS blah
*-----------------------------------------------------------------------
* ..expletive deleted comments about ENFPTR so that I remember next time
*------------------------------------------- --------------------------
DSA_ENFPTR DS A
ENFPTR EQU DSA_ENF_PTR,L'DSA_ENF_PTR
DSA_yyyy DS blah
DSA_zzzz DS blah

And me being me, that ENFPTR stands out like a spot of red paint on a white
carpet.

Sigh

No laddie, you're not alone. That interface is older than dirt and evidently
the developer of the original macro couldn't figure out how to build a proper
R1 -> (List of pointers to parameters) style parameter list, so he or she just
made the caller responsible for providing it. The important safety tip you need
to know is that the idiotic macro really is going to store into that field, so
you need to define "ENFPTR" as a word in reentrant storage.
