Beware: both support synchronous replication, but synchronous replication is not the same as PPRC for Dasd is. The tape is replicated at CLOSE time. The Unload/Rewind command ends when the replication is succesful, so when the application closed the tape successfully it can be sure the data is replicated. However, when disaster strikes while the tape is being written, no data has been replicated to the other side, so applications cannot use the logfiles on those tapes in the other location for recovery.
