For the record, you can also order as many ICFs (Internal Coupling Facility processors) and extra SAPs (System Assist Processors) as you wish, independent of the number of CPs (general purpose processors), up to the physical maximum capacity of the machine.
Also please note that you can order one zAAP *and* one zIIP per full *or fractional* CP. Sub-capacity CP configurations are exceptionally common on BC machines and reasonably common on EC machines. For example, if you have a System z10 BC Model A03, that has 3 CPs configured at minimum sub-capacity, and so you can also add as many as 3 zAAPs *and* 3 zIIPs. (And if you do, you'll still have one more processor available for other purposes on that particular machine.) All specialty processors -- zAAPs, zIIPs, IFLs, ICFs, and SAPs -- always run at full capacity speed. - - - - - Timothy Sipples IBM Consulting Enterprise Software Architect Based in Tokyo, Serving IBM Japan / Asia-Pacific E-Mail: [email protected] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For IBM-MAIN subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [email protected] with the message: GET IBM-MAIN INFO Search the archives at http://bama.ua.edu/archives/ibm-main.html
