Lizette,

Doesn't really answer your question, but our tape libraries refer to EKM
servers by IP address, both the primary, and the secondary.

Subject: DNS, IP, Internet and EKM (Tape Encryption)

I am not strong on IP and server stuff, so I have a question I hope
someone
can answer

We had two things go on tonight. One was a cpu upgrade from z890 to
z10.
No big deal.

However, during this time we also had a six hour internet outage. Some
upgrade that required a larger outage than normal.

Now I do not run a DNS server on my mainframe, they are out on the
servers.

During this time frame I EKM was unavailable, I think due to the server
(internet) outage.

Am I correct in thinking that since EKM uses a DNS name and the DNS
names
are on the servers, this outage affected EKM. If I had a DNS running on
the
mainframe, this would not have been an issue.

I am just trying to find a way to resolve this issue. Now that we
encrypt
tapes, it is not good for EKM to be down.

Lizette
