Saw the parameter offline now. But it is same as RSU calculating in order
to include all reserved memory. In our case 8 GB /64MB =128 RSU=128 has the
same meaning of RSU=OFFLINE.If RSU=OFFLINE is used ,MVS sees this amount of
area also non-prefferable ,its effect will be same for defining
RSU=somevalue that corresponds to all reserve memory amount Why not is : AS
I read from some papers about RSU . It says that ,as you know, in order to
make this non-preferable memory area be eligiable for being offlined
sometime,MVS tries not to have long-term pages,SQA,CSA frames,non-swappable
pages and fixed pages to this area. Which causes MVS to make page
movements.MVS sees this 8 GB area as non-preffered area. When prefered area
becomes full,MVS tries to expand through non-prefeered area and send
message IRA005E.In this case when a swappable address space becomes non-
swappable ,MVS tries to move it to another location. This causes page
movements and high paging and in some APARs it mentiones spin loops years
ago.I wander our impact of 8 GB.And ways of estimating this impact by
investigating our workload and application type and environment...If
someone read something different or experience something different let me
know.
Meral.
