Duh. :-) Not directly, no. When a guest does SSCH or DIAGNOSE instruction, there is a SIE intercept: (a) All device addresses/subchannel ids are virtual. Guests can only do I/O to devices in their virtual I/O configuration, (b) CP prepends a DEFINE EXTENT CCW to any disk I/O in order to electrify the fence so that guests don't wander outside their enclosure. (c) CP rejects CCWs that could mess things up for all users (usu. control unit settings) unless special authorization is given Alan Altmark z/VM Development IBM ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For IBM-MAIN subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [email protected] with the message: GET IBM-MAIN INFO Search the archives at http://bama.ua.edu/archives/ibm-main.html
