IMHO, there is only one reason to go to z/os.e, but it is a biggie. The
business case is past a no brainer. Well worth the effort.

We have been production z/os.e 1.4 on a z890 for months. We have had
some minor issues, but none we can pin on z/os.e exclusively.

A combination of z/os.e and sub capacity pricing results in some serious
dollar savings. There is a price to pay, but so far we like what we see.

There are actually not very many good reasons to go to z/OS.e at version
1.4, there are a lot of problems, and since it's z/OS.e, you have to be
64-bit anyway, so you can't take advantage of the coexistence PTF's with
older versions of OS/390 as much as you could otherwise (with regualr
z/OS).

If you are really set to keep going with V1.4 then you will need to
order
and install the z/OS.e z990 Coexistence Update feature, but I have to
warn
you that because it's an update to the base z/os code, and V1.4 already
is
known to have a lot of problems that are fixed at 1.5 and later.

If you contact me offline, I can discuss this with you and give you ome
good
hints and tips. I've installed z/OS.e quite a few times now for some of
our
University and small clients, so I can probably talk you through some of
the
pit-falls (there are quite a few).

Brian
