IMS Fast Path EMH (Extended Message Handler) Buffers increased to 32K, and we
had more than one assigned per terminal.
That increased ECSA enormously.

Fortunately, one of the IMS SYSPROGs was aware of a parameter that made them
re-usable.
That reduced the requirement drastically.

As for private area requirements, we once used CONNEX (a message passing
architecture) to handle 1400 ON-US ATMs (at the time) plus NOT-ON-US ATMs from
all other institution, plus POS.
It needed 1.3G user private to start, and 1.6 at steady state.
Never expected to see VSC, that quickly.
We had to do all the unpluggiing of ELPA, and ECSA, that we had to do
Pre-MVS/XA.

They've re-designed INTERAC so that there's now a central clearing for all
transactions, so only the ON-US are seen by each institution.
This should reduce the private areas needs if/when implementd, but I left the
banking environment over 7 years ago, so I don't know the final outcome.

PS: this drove our MVS guys nuts, because they wanted a one-size fits all
environment for all 18 images, and couldn't do it.
