In my zones I have some SMPLOG DDDEFs defined to use SYSOUT CLASS *, which, for me, puts them in held output in the job. I also have some that just use preallocated datasets with DISP=MOD,KEEP or OLD,KEEP. From what I see there, the problem might just be the lowercase letters in the name user.prod.SMPLOG. My SMPE dataset names always use all caps and show that way when I query the smplog dddef.
