Is anyone actively using z10 (or z196!!) Large Pages in any significant way yet?
As a fallout of some initial testing in our sandpit, I had previously raised some issues with IBM regarding some missing RMF3/RMF1 metrics for large pages, mainly in the area of unaccounted-for unused Large Page memory (PMRs were raised, and have morphed into an accepted 'future requirement'). My current main concern is that once large pages are deployed, a complete memory map of real memory will no longer be possible until the missing metric(s) are added (and at what level of z/OS that would take effect/be retro-fitted). As things stand, this missing 'unused large pages' metric in RMF SMF records will seriously mess with our real memory monitoring capability (which is important to us, as we maintain everything in real in production - well, attempt to!) I had thought this particular worry would be at least a year away, but Websphere7 may be making an appearance for us, sooner rather than later, which may expedite the necessity to get this fixed before turning on Large Pages in prod. Anyone have any particular experiences with this in the 'real world'? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For IBM-MAIN subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [email protected] with the message: GET IBM-MAIN INFO Search the archives at http://bama.ua.edu/archives/ibm-main.html
