Ted, DB2 V8 move more cblock from below the bar to above the bar, beside the DB2 V8 bufferpools moving from Dataspace/Hiperspace to 64-bit.
In summary it should be almost the same, except bigger cblocks because of 64 bit pointer. The main thread starts from Barbara, I talk with her by phone, was she hit a problem with a memory leak in DB2 V7 which ends in abend. This sounds fine as this cause an abend. Because of this and DB2 V8 with above the bar she might hit a problem in z/OS because of the "no-limits". Out of control. So far she prefer a monitoring tool to verify the above the bar and Mark Zelden Rexx among my coding in SHOWzOS gave her chance to monitor the above the bar. She didn't trust Mark and my coding so she verify these after taking some dumps. BTW: The dataspace/hiperspace are already owned by DB2 V7. So It's still private storage. Somebody might call paranoid but after you hit such a problem you mind will also change. One thing to remember: DB2 is already (in most shops) using HIPERPOOLs (even in 64-bit mode). What V8 will do is move all of those into its own adress space. So, you are alread back-stored in AUX. What the issue is, what happens when the DBA asks for more? Then, justification, analysis, plan, acquisition, & implementation. Hopefully, most of the above steps are taken. But, Shane is right. Where is the instrumentation? A large computer corporation used to say: “If you can't measure it, you can't manage it!”. -teD In God we Trust! All others bring data! -- W.
