I think you missed my point, which has nothing whatsoever to do with programs that "intercept" CANCEL. Also, FORCE ARM is not a "sterner" command than CANCEL. (That would imply some sort of non-existent hierarchical relationship between CANCEL and FORCE ARM.)

This case is strictly either-or--but you have to know in advance which one is appropriate for the program with which you are working. I suppose in the case of automation, one could try the most predominant case and switch to the other command if the response so dictates. PITA.
