Lizette,

If you are collection type 19 records then every switch will have to "touch"
all online DASD volumes for information. So the more online DASD the longer
the switch. We never did anything with the SMF 19's so we don't collect them
at all anymore. On our busy PROD lpar with about 10K online DASD it still only
takes about 3 seconds for a switch to complete.

Subject: How long for SMF to switch

I am currently working on rewriting our SMF Dump process.

I was wondering on a quiet system, if I issue an I SMF command, about how long
till the switch? I am seeing about 1.5 mins from command to switch.

Lizette
