This implies that your definitions have been in essence copied from a system at level z/OS V1R6 to a system at level z/OS V1R9. I couldn't quite remember exactly when the change happened - to which Luke Rabbe referred both sharply and obtusely - but I thought it was somehow connected to z/OS V1R8 and so I dug this from the z/OS Communications Server (CS) New Function Summary manual: <quote> | 2.2.2.2 Future support considerations | Be aware of the following future support consideration and refer to z/OS | Migration for information about migration. ... | z/OS V1R8 Communications Server is planned to be the last release that | supports the TN3270 server running in the TCP/IP stack. After z/OS | V1R8, you will have to use the TN3270 separate address space option to | run the TN3270 server. This option enables prioritization of the | TCP/IP address space instead of the TN3270 server, protects TCP/IP | from possible TN3270 server failures, enables easier problem diagnosis | for both TCP/IP and TN3270, and enables the TN3270 server to be | started and stopped easily, without disrupting the TCP/IP stack. </quote> This means that the TN3270E statements in the PROFILE data set upon which a z/OS V1R8 CS will act will be ignored in z/OS V1R9 and above CS. I would have expected a message or two about this but maybe not. What you need to do is check the CS Configuration Guide Chapter 10, "Accessing remote hosts using Telnet", in order to arrange to do what Luke Rabbe implied you should have done.
