We have done 1), we have no 2), we definitely do 3) - HMC (via the web) and SMCS are all we use (or have, for that matter).
As a side note: we tried OSA consoles, but (at least at the time) they didn't handle SSL as we wanted, so we dropped them. We run VTAM/NET as SUB=MSTR, so the requirement isn't onerous.
