I this works only if the volume truly has no volser at all. From the manual:
To verify that a volume serial number does not exist, substitute the string *NONE* for serial. If no volume serial exists, or if the volume serial is actually "*NONE*", the INIT operation continues. If a volume serial exists, the INIT command ends. . .
