Once upon a time several buddhist novice monks who had gotten tired of chopping wood and carrying water took a break. As they stood around, one of them espied a flag attached to a flagpole in the distance, and he asked, "is it the wind that moves the flag, or is it the flag, flapping itself, that creates the wind?" and a VERY lively and acerbic discussion ensued. Multiple contentions raged. After a while, and unbeknownst to them, the abbot came up behind them and listened for a while. Suddenly he shouted out, "Oh you silly monks!! there is neither wind blowing the flag, nor flag moving the wind. there is only your silly minds flapping idely about. Now shut up and get back to work!! "
