I'm glad to hear that solved the problem (thanks, John). FYI, the shipped default for DFSORT R14 was COBEXIT=COB1 and we changed it to COBEXIT=COB2 starting with z/OS DFSORT V1R10. Hopefully, your site will move to supported releases of z/OS and DFSORT soon.
