Consider to not install z/OS DFSMS VSAM PTFs UA57797 or UA57798 if you have IMS
without also installing the PTFS for the IMS APAR applicable to your release
(PM38517, PM38518, or PM38458).
We recently installed z/OS RSU1103 which included PTF UA57797 on z/OS 1.11.
This was for APAR OA32318 NEW FUNCTION SUPPORT FOR IMS R12.
This VSAM APAR OA32318 is not marked PE and has HOLDs IPL and ENH but no
reference to a serious IMS defect this exposes so there is nothing to stop you
from installing it as part of RSU1103.
The IMS APAR PM38458 U0479 ON VSAM STATS CALL WITH Z/OS 1.12 IDAXVIM FIELD
RESIDUAL is flagged RESTART/BOOT/IPL/HIPER.
We experienced sporadic but recurring U479 ABENDs in some executions of the
DFSDDLT0 test program (used to issue dynamic IMS DB calls using SYSIN input)
have been failing with U479 ABENDs. We have contacted IBM and there is a fix
for this failure that occurs here during the cleanup of a DFSDDLT0 step. Our
DBA team documented to our programmer's a work around, until the IMS fix can be
implemented to issue a SYNC call as the final statement coded in the DFSDDLT0
control cards. This is only required if the step contains any type of update
type calls - so that the U479 during cleanup doesn't cause the updates to be
rolled back. Of course if the output of the DFSDDLT0 is being written to a
file, the DISP of that file must be CATLG instead of DELETE, so that it is
still retained even if the step ABENDs with the U479.
