As I remember it, folding came with HASP. Original OS/360 required the full form of the reply command:
R 00,'U' or whatever. As the programmer, you had to OR an operator reply with blanks before comparing 2250s were certainly used as consoles, though is was a pretty expensive way to do it. I think the /165 must have used the same character generator. II wouldn't be surprised if it was the same hardware. The nice thing about the 1052 was that OS/360 would ring the bell for Intervention Required - so you could flick the thing offline during a long job and go for a coffee.
