Ronald,

First of all you really should get into the habit of using "their" as the
3rd plural possessive pronoun in place of "there", the opposite of "here"
and so on ... If you want people's help you should not be obliging them to
puzzle over the grammar of your sentences. As they say, 1 is an accident, 2
is careless but how do we describe 3? - sorry - I checked again - 4!

>From the CS IP and SNA Codes manual, which I'm sure you consulted, I find
the following:

<quote>

1.1.1.32 Sense code 0821

Session parameters not valid: Session parameters included on a BIND were not
valid or not supported by the half-session whose activation was requested.
The session parameters are usually obtained from the logmode table entry.

Bytes 2 and 3 following the sense code contain sense-code-specific
information.

0000

No specific code applies.

VTAM Hint: Possible causes of this error include, but are not limited to,
the following:

- Sessions cannot log on to CICS. <In the interests of brevity I have
removed the paragraph following which refers to CICS autoinstall>
- The PLU has rejected the BIND session parameters.
- The cryptographic function referenced in the logmode table entry is not
active in all SSCPs involved in establishing the session.

<end quote>

You should always use this manual for sense codes involving VTAM since those
"VTAM Hints" can often be just what you need.

Probably you are suffering from the second case, namely that NetView doesn't
like the BIND image with which it was presented. The BIND image is that
defined by the logmode table entry which is specified at the secondary LU. I
don't know TPX - isn't it some sort of 3270 multi-session program? - but I
expect, indeed hope, that the APPL to which you are referring is the APPL
statement which represents the application secondary LU pretending to be a
3270 display LU.

The normal rules for logmode table entry apply in that the name can,
generally, in the case of an application program, be specified in program
customization; if blank, then by the DLOGMOD operand of the APPL statement;
then, if still blank, by the first entry in the applicable logmode table,
either the LOGMODE operand of the APPL statement of, if not specified, the
first entry in ISTINCLM. If the logmode table entry is named by the
application or by the DLOGMOD operand of the APPL statement, it must exist
in either the logmode table named by the LOGMODE operand of the APPL
statement of, if not specified, ISTINCLM.

I checked my table for this topic to be sure I got it right and I noted some
exceptions which do not affect this case - in case anyone still reading this
may have wished to make that point.

Perhaps you can customize TPX so that, when the primary application is
NetView, you can specify a particular logmode table name.
Maybe the quickest way to work out what is acceptable to NetView is to use
the logmode table entry name which you use when you log onto NetView
directly from a real or emulated 3270.

As a last resort you can even consult the NetView manuals - although NetView
and logmode table entries has moved on a great deal from the days when
NetView was very restrictive and even insisted on the name DSILGMOD - if I
remember correctly back 15 years or so.

I am actually a touch surprised that a logmode table entry that other
3270-supporting applications - such as TSO and CICS with autoinstall I
expect - can accept is not acceptable by NetView.

Talking about the "normal rules for logmode table entry selection", haven't
we been here before together recently regarding TELNET 3270 secondary
applications?

Incidentally, this is either a NetView or a VTAM issue if there is no
suitable TPX newsgroup. For VTAM you might try ibm.networking.vtam which you
can subscribe to via URL

or for NetView there is http://groups.yahoo.com/group/NetView/ .
