Well ..... For CA-IDMS that's exactly what I do (we do not have MSM yet installed, but even if we did - I would first want to non-MSM install a product, then a MSM install and compare the results) I put in a request - CA spits me back a "from" path, and I FTP the pax file directly to the mainframe, unpack and unload - and I am ready to install just as if it had been delivered on tape!
Is IDMS the only CA product that allows this choice of acquisition ? I really don't want to install another product, just to help maintain the others. Just another product to keep current. Honestly, the biggest hassle is just finding the maintenance and downloading it. And at that, not a huge problem that I need to have another piece of software to do it. And it's not like MSM is a "light-weight" product either, with ZFS file systems, STc's, etc all needed just run it. Nothing is easier than running a SMPE receive order. Even if CA just had a FTP site that I could access directly and download and then receive the maintenance for each product I would be happy. We already have a process/method to deploy updates, so that doesn't buy me anything. We only touch a product once per year(unless a fix is needed for a problem). _________________________________________________________________ Dave Jousma Assistant Vice President, Mainframe Services [email protected] 1830 East Paris, Grand Rapids, MI 49546 MD RSCB2H p 616.653.8429 f 616.653.2717 -----Original Message----- From: IBM Mainframe Discussion List [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Jim Petersen Sent: Thursday, October 06, 2011 1:39 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: CA MSM v4 on z/os 1.9 Actually, MSM V4 is really great for downloading new Products or new releases of Products or Maintenance for Products and then installing them. For me, it has really speeded things up for getting new releases or maintenance on current releases on. Not to mention, the ability to deploy those products to another site in your company. ___________________________________________ Jim Petersen MVS - Lead Systems Engineer Home Depot Technology Center 1300 Park Center Drive, Austin, TX 78753 www.homedepot.com email:[email protected] 512-977-2615 direct 512-977-2930 fax 210-859-9887 cell phone This e-mail transmission contains information that is confidential and may be privileged.
