iSCSI is SCSI over IP - you don't actually have "one". That's like saying
"FICON, we actually have one!'
O.K, then I am not sure how to state, but we have a DASD "box" that is
connected to our LAN and using iSCSI protocol to one of our servers.
.
I've used VM in a few sites where the performance sucked, but there were
plenty more where it worked just fine.
True, any site can have a poor performing enviroment.
Why GbE? Of course, just like with a SAN, when connectivity is required over
throughput you would use a core edge design with significantly cheaper hubs
or switches to concentrate those connections.
Depending on your enviroment. We have a new director that wants GbE to
all servers, period. We have some servers that average a whole 10KBps
and have peaks of 100KBps, but because they are a sever we need to
migrate them to GbE. We (at least me) are hoping that once he sees the
price tag (even for just 25-35 servers) he may change his mind. Of
course we see to be going to baldes and then it wont be to bad, the
blades will us the back place to the internal switches and then we will
start with 1 GbE connection to each internal switch.
