My team finished deploying z/OS 1.12 last Sunday and it has been one of
the best quality z/OS releases we have seen.

One of the little gems in my desk is a preprinted card that was enclosed
with my MVS/ESA 4.3 order.

Addressed on the outside

MVS... IBM's most powerful and reliable operating system

   To Our Customers

On the inside a note card

Thank you for selecting MVS/ESA SP V4.3

Made with pride by the IBM Mid-Hudson Valley Programming Laboratory

Apparently they are still making z/OS with pride because 1.12 was chuck
full of content and very solid.

We had very minimal break fix engagement. Only 1.12 specific PMR I
recall was around z/OSMF migration and I regard that as a thing apart
still in its infancy and subject to growing pains.

We have seen a small but measureable overall CPU benefit >1% on our
largest LPARs not so much in the smaller development and testing LPARs.

One olde PL/I program circa PL/I for MVS 1.1 failed with a S0C7 under
the 1.12 LE runtime ran fine before and ran fine after being recompiled
in current Enterprise PL/I.

RTD setup was easy and implemented value remains to be seen.

We are rolling out MEMDSENQMGMT and will have that enabled in the large
production Sysplex soon looking forward to seeing if it helps our big
DB2 subsystem shutdown quicker.

Same for AUTOR disabled now going back and enabling. These are mostly
should not be hanging around WTORs and the automated replies are in the
do no harm free things up vein.

Lots of other small and large improvements to leverage as we now circle
back and start to exploit new feature and function in 1.12 that was not
automatically enabled.

        Best Regards,
