ITYM "What can Unix System Services do?" USS is Unformatted System
Services, a different part of z/OS.
IBM was basically concerned with satisfying the X/OPEN and POSIX
requirements. They were less concerned with utilities that are not
actually part of Unix but are often available. What facilities do you
need?

You can access either of two Unix shells from TSO, but you can also
log on directly to a Unix shell. However, the latter requires straight
TELNET rather than TN3270. You must, of course, have a properly
configure TELNET server and you must connect to the proper port.
>2,Can I access z/OS data sets via USS?
No, but you can access them in a Unix shell. I'm not sure which of the
Unix editors have been ported to z/OS; I normally use ISPF. BTW, you
can use ISPF to edit Unix files on z/OS.
Probably the main issue that you will need to deal with is ASCII
versus EBCDIC.

You should be able to find out with ps.
