I think that an logical library in a VTS can be used by systems in multiple sysplexes. >From the IBM Redbook: "IBM TotalStorage Virtual Tape Server: Planning, Implementing, and Monitoring" (SG24-2229-07) <quote> Logical library: The logical library is defined in SMS: The 3494 can be partitioned between two or more hosts by using different Library Manager volume categories and by using their own set of control data sets (TCDB, TMC, ACDS). It can be shared between different systems (LPARs) or sysplexes. </quote> >From the IBM Redbook: ""IBM TotalStorage Enterprise Tape A Practical Guide" (SG24-4632-05) <quote> Partitioning a tape library gives you the chance to use the library resources with different users. Each attached partition can be either an MVS platform or a non-MVS platform. There can be single MVS platforms or MVS platforms that consists of one or more systems or sysplexes, or both, connected to a shared TCDB. If systems share the TCDB, they are referred to as a TCDBplex. Each TCDB can contain configuration information about the library and some subset of the volumes in the library. Therefore, partitioning may be viewed as dividing a physical library into multiple logical libraries, with each logical library (TCDBplex) represented by one TCDB. ... Inside a sysplex, the tape devices can be shared through ATS STAR (or previously through IEFAUTOS) without manual intervention. If you have a TDCBplex containing more than one sysplex or single systems, the common use of tape devices is not possible without additional tools or manual intervention. This is also true if multiple, different users (multiple TCDBplex or singe MVS platforms) want to use the same devices. ... To change the default category assignments, you can specify the categories in PARMLIB member DEVSUPxx. DEVSUPxx eliminates the need of a user modification used in earlier releases of DFSMSdfp to assign volume categories. The category specification parameters enable the installation to change the default category assignments associated with a system or sysplex, or both. The installation must ensure that all systems or sysplexes, or both, associated with the same TCDB (TCDBplex) use the same category assignments. For a discussion of the partitioning related DEVSUPxx parameters, see 5.3.2, "Updating SYS1.PARMLIB" on page 188. </quote> >From the above, I gather that you can share a VOLCAT across Sysplex boundries. This would allow sharing of volumes. If you only want to share a subset of volsers, you can use multiple VOLCATs, separated by the first character of the volser, SYS1.VOLCAT.Vy, and share as appropriate (IMPORT CONNECT as needed to the sharing systems). -- John McKown Senior Systems Programmer UICI Insurance Center Information Technology This message (including any attachments) contains confidential information intended for a specific individual and purpose, and its content is protected by law.
