XL means 'eXtra Loot'.
'Loot' is US slang for money.
So, XL = Higher price.
I am joking, but renaming or rebranding is usually a sales/marketing
ploy. Very rarely of technical interest except as an administrative
headache.
IMHO it's headache only. What marketing reasons caused RACF to be RACF
Security Server, SecureWay RACF Security Server and other flavors, and
longer names. Everybody who works with RACF knows what is it, nobody
would buy RACF because of attractive name. The same apply to other z/OS
components. I heard that sometimes people wanted to buy Apple Macintosh,
tempted by attractive logo, even they didn't know what they buy.
IMHO it won't work in this case. BTW: I've never seen RACF box in
software shop. I've seen Corel, Windows, even OS/2, but never, ever MVS,
or COBOL. Why ? <vbg>
