I'm relatively new to SMS. I setup SMS to manage our DB2 archive logs via their own Storage Class, Storage Group, & ACS routine. This was working fine when I dynamically activated the SMS configuration. However, after our last IPL I had not consistently set all the SCDS, ACDS, & COMMDS datasets. After resolving that I'm finding that SMS & DB2 are working significantly differently in this area. We get this sequence of errors:
IKJ56893I DATA SET DBCD8S2.ARCHLOG1.D06031.T0855359.B0001486 NOT ALLOCATED+ IGD17206I VOLUME SELECTION HAS FAILED - THERE ARE NOT ENOUGH VOLUMES WITH SUFFICIENT SPACE FOR DATA SET DBCD8S2.ARCHLOG1.D06031.T0855359.B0001486 IGD17277I THERE ARE (1) CANDIDATE VOLUMES OF WHICH (1) ARE ENABLED OR QUIESCED IGD17290I THERE WERE 1 CANDIDATE STORAGE GROUPS OF WHICH THE FIRST 1 635 WERE ELIGIBLE FOR VOLUME SELECTION. THE CANDIDATE STORAGE GROUPS WERE:D8S2ASG DSNJ103I -D8S2 DSNJDS01 LOG ALLOCATION ERROR 636 DSNAME=DBCD8S2.ARCHLOG1.D06031.T0855359.B0001486, ERROR STATUS=970C0000, SMS REASON CODE=00004336 I can clearly see that this volume has buckets of space (it's a 3390-27) via ISPF 3.4 and via SMS LISTVOL. If I add another volume (3390-9) to the group it then works with the ARCHLOG datasets being multi-volume, multi-extent datasets across both volumes. The storage group I setup for DB2 database data is still working fine. Has anyone else seen this or have any suggestions?
