There are many files that fit that description. There's the syslog
facility for consoles. There's the EREP facility. There are tracing
facilities, e.g., CT and GTF. There's the Unix syslog. There's SMF.
There are logs for data base and transaction subsystems, e.g., CICS,
DB2. Several of these are available either in a legacy format or via a
new centralized logger.
