Bottom line for me: They get kudos because I got to keep my job.

Its a sad state of affairs that you have to depend on the poor
installation "procedure" to sustain your job. Job security shouldn't
be dependent on poor packaging, IMO.

I guess that I didn't say that very well. The reason that I got to keep
my job was the fact that CA allowed us to cost effectively upgrade the
mainframe. There was a very large push to get off of the z/OS system and
onto Windows due to the cost of upgrading. CA helped us to destroy the
"Windows is better, faster, CHEAPER" people by being at least reasonable
about the upgrade fees. Of course, now all but one of those pusher
people are no longer here. Curious, that. The new CIO is totally
unimpressed with "cheerleaders" and "pundants" who don't have hard
figures to back up their propoganda. Too many questions of the Windows
people got a response from them like: "There are technologies to address
that issue." with no hard facts like which technologies and how much
they cost.

John,

Thanks for clarifying this. I will be the first to say this is a surprising turn of events.

In the past CA has been notorious for doing the opposite. I can attest to 4 or 5 situations where CA has taken the screws to the company and came up with (in one case) over a million dollars in upgrade fees. In other cases the fees came to 500K or so. Or on the other hand "give" away a product and then charged an arm an a leg for the upgrade.

Do you think CA has finally come to their senses? I should hope so.

Anyway congrats on getting CA to help you out.
