re: http://www.garlic.com/~lynn/2006b.html#25 Multiple address spaces
as an aside ... some systems implement virtual memory but don't support paging. in these situations, the amount of virtual memory will be the same as the amount of real storage. one such system was a hacked version of osmvt release 13 done by boeing huntsville on a duplex (two-processor) 360/67. it was sort of like the vs2-svs effort but w/o paging support. the problem was that boeing huntsville were supporting a number of 2250 graphic displays ... which looked like long running jobs to mvt. mvt required contiguous storage for applications and had problems with storage fragmentation with long running jobs. the hack done by boeing huntsville using virtual memory hardware ... allowed disjoint real storage locations to appear to be contiguous. misc. past posts mentioning boeing huntsville use of 360/67 http://www.garlic.com/~lynn/99.html#174 S/360 history http://www.garlic.com/~lynn/2000f.html#66 360 Architecture, Multics, ... was (Re: X86 ultimate CISC?
