somebody just reminded me that access registers didn't ship until 3090
(they weren't on 3081).

i have some recollection of various architecture discussions about
access registers that i remember being in the 811 candy-stripe document
time-frame i.e. 3081/370-xa architecture documents that took their name
from nov78. i had a drawer full and was once approached by some vendor
about their possible availability. And even tho i denied even knowing
what they were talking about; the fact that they even approached me
turned up in some later litigation and earned me a debriefing with the FBI.

3081 had some mvs addressing constraint relief that resulted from the
combination of mvs kernel (8mbyte) and the common segment (large
installations having it grow to 5megs) ... with dual-address space stuff
(introduced on 3033) as well as 370-xa introducing 31-bit virtual
addressing (although it took some time for environments to transition
from 24-bit addressing and take advantage of the additional addressing
above the 16mbyte line.

the person responsible for dual-address space architecture was also
heavily involved in the microprocessor convergence to 801 and endicott
planning on using 801 microprocessor for the 4341 followon. lots
of past 801, romp, rios, power, etc posts

recent post mentioning thread between (3033) dual-address space and
itanium-2

directly changed?
