I have seen many shops with all LPARs in the same PLEX and there were fewer 
footprints than images.

LPARs work when differing workloads peak at different times.

You mean more members of sysplex than CPCs. That's right. Sometimes more than one LPAR on CPC belong to given sysplex. Probably those LPARs have different workloads. However what I mean is: it is unpopular to have ALL members of sysplex withing single CPC. Except having CF and software maintenance, there is no real advantage of such configuration, but there's a cost (CPU cycles).
Of course IRD can manage subset of sysplex, but it's not big deal.

What's you observation regarding IRD ? Is it widely used ?
