By my calculation (verified by experimentation) a blocksize of 7000 gets
7 blocks per track for 49000 bytes/track.
Oops, ur right. I read the 3390 blocksize chart wrong. So for LRECL=7000, BLKSIZE=7000 gets MORE data on the track than 21000 (half-track).

BTW, the largest half-track record on 3390 is 27,998, just 2 bytes short of 28000 (7000*4). Which is why LRECL=6999 gets a blocksize of 27996.
