Simple answer: You can't really do that using z/OS facilities. Hum, you didn't mention the OS, so maybe that should be the first question. What OS are you talking about? I am not familiar with VSE. I'm really only familiar with z/OS, some z/VM, and z/Linux. The only one of those which really has a concept of "read only DASD" is z/Linux. With z/Linux, put in the "-oro" switch on the mount command. Or in the /etc/fstab file. Now, if you're running z/OS and "Top Secret" as your security package, I think that there is a way to do that. But I don't know what it is. I was at a shop where the production MVS (way back then) system volumes were "read only" unless the security people did "something". But I don't know what that "something" was. -- John McKown Senior Systems Programmer UICI Insurance Center Information Technology This message (including any attachments) contains confidential information intended for a specific individual and purpose, and its content is protected by law.
