I agree with you pretty much ad I do remember seeing the doc about
message prefix's a long time ago. I even tried getting a vendor to
submit their prefix to IBM. I don't recall whether they ever did or
not its been *AGES*.
Now if IBM would follow the OS of messages 3 alpha followed 3 (or 4)
numbers followed by a severity letter. The "open system" people
pretty much blew that since day one. I always felt they were thumb
ing their noses at the rest of IBM because of that.
