Yours seems to be to assume that one irrational choice is more preferred than the other irrational choice, and that once this is done, we won't have to worry about results.

Ah, well, in the specific case of software development, I, too,
rigidly parse and check all inputs for valid syntax, rejecting any
that do not conform to the governing specification.

However, in the general case of how to interpret, for example,
a sign which says, "No parking from 12AM to 12PM", rejecting
the input does not help.
