I'm in the process of setting up a service path for service the the z/OS HFS
datasets and I crated a DASD volume which is SMS managed.
When I went to created the new HFS on volume ZHFS02 I found it allocated on another volume which is also SMS managed but has some space left on it ... that's my ZHFS01 volume.
My question is; when I start to clone my ROOT HFS (that's the one I have to make a copy of) will the copy fall over the the ZHFS02 volume when the 01 volume is full because its SMS managed?
I'm not sure I understand. However, if your target HFS need to grow up
(get secondary extents) then the space on the volume is required, no
doubt. Maybe you allocated it as multi-volume - then secondary extents
can be taken from other volumes in storage group. Otherwise it will
fail, when volume fills up.
Of course, if primary extent of your target HFS is big enough the
considerations above are simply not applicable.
