Thanks. Worked like a champ.
Discovered to my dismay that my "source file" that got corrupted on FTP
to an ASCII machine didn't contain any embedded short blocks.
"Naturally", running the same FTP job, with debug options and packet
tracing enabled, against the same "source file" with the same
destination ASCII host completed the transfer without corruption.
"Just for grins" I created a subset of the original "source file" with
embedded short blocks, and FTPed that with the debug and trace stuff
enabled. Same result: No corruption in the target file. Yet the
regular production FTP job gives a corrupted ASCII file about 40% of the
time.
This is going to be one of those "fun" problems to document.... :-(
