But, the real question Deep Thought was answering was:
"What do you get when you multiply 9 by 5?"

When pointed out, he said:
"What do I know? I'm an author! Not a mathematician!"

This may seem off-topic.

But, the real issue is the lack of education for the lay-person.
Read: Manager, for lay-person.
They don't know what their staff is doing, so they make their own decisions.
And, we live with them.

So, Douglas Adams made his own decisions.
