I am just going to have to delete the functional device definition from IXFP
and then re-define the same unit with a new vol=ser name.
Does a delete from IXFP totally delete a device from the system or is there
other work involved?
The IXFP delete will make the device non-existant from the hardware
prospective but it will still be in your I/O configuration unless you
update your IOCDS and do an ACTIVATE to delete it. If you are going to
re-define the same device with IXFP there is no need to do the ACTIVATE.
However, if you redefine the device with different charateristics, such
as a different number of cylinders, then at least you will need to do a
DS QD,uuuu,VALIDATE
to refresh the control blocks for the device. I think that will work.
If you are changing the device type (3380 to 3390) then you WILL need to
update your IOCDS and ACTIVATE.
