In MVS-OE, I started a thread with the observation that when I issue a TSO
command such as:

    OSHELL time cksum /etc/profile

... the right ends of the output lines are lost. Mark Gibbons helpfully
observed the data stream from the shell command contained HT (0x05)
characters, and output beyond any tab character was lost, and that the
behavior is terminal (emulator) dependent -- his terminal shows the
tabs as colons. I believe colon is traditional and correct, and I'll
pursue this with the authors of my emulators (x3270 and Hummingbird;
tn3270 X shows colons).

But, on the other side, it's customary and proper for UNIX utilities
to separate output fields with tabs. It's also customary of IBM
utilities not to send nondisplayable characters to a 327x terminal.
So, should OSHELL replace or expand tabs in its output stream?
Would the behavior change if I had a suitable stty in my ~/.profile
(I need to experiment)?
